During our round-table session on social media marketing today, I (Laura from Northern Virginia) recommended signing up on a free web directory called GetFave.com. You can read more about this directory and why it works so well with Google and other search engines by clicking here.
The following is taken directly from their website: “Fave is all about helping small to mid-sized businesses be found locally on the web. In today’s cluttered search engine environment, it can be very difficult to get noticed. GetFave.com has been designed to work in harmony with Google and the other major search engines to provide you with the greatest visibility possible at a reasonable cost. We make it easy for a business to claim, manage, and update its information in real-time and participate in our unique business community. Let us help you make internet advertising work for your business!”
Just go their site, and use the search box in the upper portion of the site and type in your company name and then city, state. If there is already a generic listing for your company you can click an organge button that reads “Claim this Business”. Then go through the steps to sign up for an account and customize your listing. If they don’t have your company name listed, you can click a link that reads “Add or Update Your Business” and then “Add a New Business”
You fill out the form and voila!
Be sure to enter in as many “business key words” as possible including landscape lighting, outdoor lighting, etc. And be sure to list your website address as your LOCAL WEB PAGE, so you can get direct traffic to your customized local page on outdoorlights.com.
We are signed up for the free account with GetFave. There are also paid advertizing options or upgrades if you want to do more with your listing (but to be honest, I am thrilled with the free one, so I say just do that one!). Check out our OLP Northern Virginia getfave listing as a base for creating yours and let me know if you have any questions! You can post a comment/question directly on this blog and I’ll try to get back to you as soon as I can.
